The First Rubber Duck Race

OUR FIRST ANNUAL RUBBER DUCK RACE HELD ON OCTOBER 6TH, 2007

On Saturday, October 6th, The Knights of Columbus Council #11529 in Jackson  held their First Annual Rubber Duck Race at Pine Park in Lakewood. Pine Park is a beautiful wooded park where the Metedeconk Rivers runs through. Over the past four months we sold raffle tickets for the event. For each ticket sold, a corresponding ticket number was written on the bottom of a little rubber duck (just like the one your kids take a bath with). Six hundred and six ducks were entered into the race. We released all of the ducks into the river at the starting line and followed them as they floated downstream for about two hundred yards toward the finish line. The river was lined with kids and adults of all ages rooting and cheering for the ducks as some got stuck on the banks and others seemed to be on a mission with a direct route to the finish line.

There were sixty one prizes in all, totaling over five thousand dollars in value. The prize rewarded to the first duck to finish the race was a 50” Sony HD TV, generously donated by Jack Guarnieri, owner of Pinballsales.com.

Besides the race, the day was filled with music, lots of food and drink,  many games and prizes for the kids, face painting and a whole lot of fun. 100% of the profits raised from the event will go to the many local charities that the Knights of Columbus support.

Many local businesses, such as Provident Bank and Investors Savings Bank, showed their support by sponsoring the event while others graciously donated a gift for the winning ducks. Please check out the prize list and support the sponsors that supported us.

We look forward next year’s race and hope to see you all out there cheering for your ducks!
